Labor MP Patrick Gorman has warned a ‘type of fashionable slavery” might develop if folks on welfare will not be give you the chance to be selective of their employment selections.
His remark responded to the Morrison authorities’s provision of a dob-in hotline which is able to enable employers to report JobSeeker recipients who flip down affords for work.
“It does seem like an incredibly punitive approach,” he stated when questioned on the subject.
“Do you want to go back to some form of modern slavery where people have to take a job regardless of the terms and conditions of that job?”
Liberal MP Jason Falinski stated “you only have to walk into a restaurant these days and they will say to you look I can only open for dinner because I can’t get anyone to work during lunch”.
“We’ve got farmers saying they can’t get people to pick fruit, we’ve got cafés saying they can’t get anyone to serve tables, we’ve got restaurants saying they can’t open because they can’t get anyone in the kitchen”.
