Dragnet (1987)

This is town… and solely Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks can put it aside on this hilarious box-office blockbuster that pays homage to the famed authentic police drama of the ’50s and ’60s. Aykroyd is at his comedic greatest because the namesake nephew of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday. Like his uncle, he is a blue-suited, by-the-rules cop who reluctantly joins forces along with his footloose accomplice Pep Streebek (Hanks) to rescue the City of Angels from the machinations of a power-mad Reverend and corrupt Police Commissioners. And these are “just the facts” of this hysterically humorous action-comedy.
