When the Cameras for Allsky Meteor Surveillance venture initially began in 2009, there have been three areas at Fremont Peak Observatory and Lick Observatory, in California. Each platform included 24 black-and-white surveillance video cameras that have been programmed to observe the sky from nightfall till daybreak. Thousands of potential meteor detections have been processed manually by interns and volunteers. Now, the venture has expanded to 19 areas worldwide, together with New Zealand, South Africa, Europe, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Chile, Brazil, and Namibia. To sustain with the corresponding improve in information, principal investigator Dr. Peter Jenniskens turned to the Frontier Development Lab and machine studying to automate the information pipeline.
